In India, the restaurant business is one of the fastest-growing industries. To protect public health and ensure food safety, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) plays a vital role by regulating and inspecting food businesses across the country.
FSSAI’s primary goal is to maintain food quality and eliminate issues like food adulteration and the sale of non-consumable products. The authority grants licenses to Food Business Operators (FBOs) only after registration and ensures they follow all necessary rules and regulations.
Restaurants must undergo a proper quality check before serving food to customers. This ensures that the food being offered is safe, hygienic, and does not harm anyone’s health.
As the restaurant industry continues to boom, there’s a growing number of entrepreneurs opening hotels and eateries throughout India. With this growth comes an increase in customer awareness. Modern customers are more vigilant about food safety and expect high-quality, safe food.
To address these expectations, the Government of India has made it mandatory for all hotels and restaurants to obtain an FSSAI license before starting food business operations.
FSSAI has laid down a set of food safety rules and guidelines that every restaurant and food business in India must follow to operate legally and maintain consumer trust.
